Firm overview

Inspicos is a top tier patent prosecution firm based in Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark.

The firm represents a large number of reputable international corporations in examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO and the Danish Patent Office, and provides support in relation to domestic and multinational litigation proceedings. In a recent international survey, Inspicos has been portrayed as a “vibrant, close-knit team, consistently producing outstanding results”. The firm is fully prepared for the future UPC regime, with most of its attorneys having obtained a European diploma in patent litigation. Inspicos’ ability to serve clients’ needs is reflected by the fact that a remarkably high proportion of the firm’s professionals have held positions as IPR Directors in the pharma industry.

Two partners of the firm are members of a standing panel of expert judges of the Copenhagen Maritime and Commercial High Court, which is the central first instance for IP disputes in Denmark. Several of the firm’s associates and partners lecture at leading IP institutions – for example, at the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) and the Danish Institute for IP Rights Training – and as part of university courses.

In recruiting its professionals, the firm has targeted some of the most renowned European patent attorneys in the region, as well as highly qualified associates with the clear potential to pass the examination. Clients consistently praise Inspicos for its ability to serve clients in an efficient and highly professional manner.

Inspicos is wholly owned and managed by the partners of the firm. In recent years the firm has achieved remarkable results within a variety of technical fields, from life sciences to physics, including immunology, antibody technology, food ingredient technology, organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, medical devices, wind power, wireless communication, software and mechanics.

Pursuant to Rule 71(3) of the European Patent Convention (EPC), towards the termination of the examination proceedings, the Examining Division of the European Patent Office (EPO) shall inform the applicant of the text in which it intends to grant the European patent.
A common dilemma for inventors and applicants before the European Patent Office is whether an invention is sufficiently mature for a patent application to be filed.

At the beginning of 1998, the EPO began allowing oral proceedings to be held as a video conference (OJ EPO 1997, 572). Video conferencing was only available for oral proceedings held before an examining division, i.e. prior to grant of the European patent. Oral proceedings before examining divisions are more suited to video conferencing as they are usually shorter and less complex than opposition oral proceedings, they are not open to the public, and only one party is present (the patent applicant).
