Canon sees potential in domain name space

Canon explains why it has become the first large business brand to announce its intention to apply for a gTLD

A company-specific top-level domain is indispensible in an evolving brand communications market, says Canon, which has become the first large business brand to announce its intention to apply for a generic top-level domain (gTLD).

The company said it will apply for .canon if and when the body that governs domain name space, Internet Corporation Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), launches its new gTLD programme.

The move by the Japanese technology company on March 16 surprised observers....
