Steven Richard Kitchen is European Patent Attorney and European Patent Litigator and has more than 20 years of experience in patent protection of inventions within mechanics, electronics, and software, and draws on experience from both patent firms and the industry.
Steven is working with large international technology and manufacturing companies as well as a number of local SMEs and universities. He handles all aspects of patent life cycle and portfolio management including patent strategy, patent clearances and FTO analyses, and he is often consulted in the early stages of R&D projects to align patent strategies and business plans.
Steven is tremendously experienced in opposition cases, including in oral proceedings before the European Patent Office – on part of both the opponent and patentee. He is currently lead on dozens of ongoing opposition and appeal cases.
Steven also serves as Technical Judge of the Maritime and Commercial High Court as well as the Eastern High Court in Copenhagen and is regularly called upon as court-appointed expert in litigation cases. in 2023, he became a European Patent Litigator 2023 and is ready to represent clients before the UPC.
Steven received an industrial Ph.D. degree in a collaboration project between the company Kamstrup A/S, the Technical University of Denmark, and Risø National Laboratory. During his Ph.D. project, he worked on optical metrology systems for inter alia flow and pressure measurements. Several of the developed systems were patented.
