Indian watchdog investigates Frand battle

Swedish telecoms company Ericsson has confirmed that it is under investigation by the Indian antitrust watchdog over Frand licensing issues

The Competition Commission of India is considering a complaint filed by domestic handset maker Micromax, which was sued by Ericsson in March this year for patent infringement.

Ericsson claims that it had previously tried to sign a licence deal with Micromax on Frand terms.

As part of its defence, the Indian company complained about Ericsson’s licensing practices to the antitrust regulator. Ericsson says it will fully cooperate with the authority in this investigation to reach a fair and reasonable conclusion.
