Indonesia opens for IP business

Indonesia’s government is trying to improve the country’s much-maligned IP system. Brett McGuire explains the challenges that it must overcome
Intellectual property is high on the priority list of the Indonesian government at present as the US Trade Representative prepares its annual Special 301 Report on the adequacy and effectiveness of the IP protection offered by its trading partners. Indonesia's government is eager to persuade the US, its biggest trading partner, to remove it from the Priority Watch List, which is reserved for the countries with the weakest IP protection. A key driver for the government is the fear that extra trade tariffs could impede Indonesia's strong economic growth and further curtail foreign investment....
