The Intelektiv conference on intellectual property in Zagreb, Croatia is the first of its kind organised to promote strategic development of IP assets held by Croatian private businesses.
The programme targeted a domestic audience and presentations covered commercialisation, valuation and management strategies for trade marks, copyrights and patents.
Our managing partner was invited speak about trade mark portfolio management strategies for Croatian national rights holders in the EU and former Yugoslav republics. He explained the concept of strong and weak marks and stressed the importance of creativity in developing brands, logos, and marks. Because of Croatia's planned accession to the EU, the presentation also included information on the impact of CTM legislation on local marks and the importance of timely, targeted search activities in western European countries (particularly if the national trade mark rights concerned cover English language marks), as well as other crucial activities for local brand owners such as conducting watch services in eastern European countries including Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
