Managing IP’s first 25 years – a timeline

Managing IP marks its 25th anniversary this year. Here are some of the landmarks in our development, from the launch of the magazine in 1990 to the world of webinars, Twitter and our Chinese-language website

1991 Euromoney PLC acquires Managing IP

1996 First World IP Survey published (now known as IP Stars)

1997 Managing IP magazine goes full-colour; the first cover star is litigator Herb Schwartz of Fish & Neave (left)

1999 managingip.com launched – the website’s searchable archive of articles now spans 16 years

2000 Incorporation of IP Asia and expansion of the Hong Kong office

2003 New York office opens with Americas editor and sales manager

2003 Managing IP publishes the INTA Daily News at the Annual Meeting in Amsterdam, the start of a continuing partnership with INTA

2006 First Managing IP Global Awards Dinner held at Claridge’s, London

Webinars

2008 First North America Awards Dinner held at the Four Seasons, Washington DC

2008 First AIPPI Congress News published at Boston meeting. Subsequent editions published at AIPPI meetings in Paris, Seoul and Toronto

2008 Managing IP webinar channels launched (right). The first webinars are on new gTLDs, Bilski and litigation in China

2009 Managing IP produces first AIPLA Daily Report, published annually during the AIPLA Annual Meeting

MIP twitter

2009 @managingip Twitter account (left) launched. It now has over 14,000 followers

2010 Managing IP LinkedIn group founded. It now has over 5,500 members

2011 First International Patent Forum held in London. Managing IP events have also taken place in Barcelona, Paris, Munich, Beijing, Shanghai, New Delhi, Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Seattle

2012 Chinese-language website managingip.cn (right) goes live

2014 Women in IP Network launched

2014 Dedicated US version of managingip.com launched

2015 Today we publish over 100 articles on topical patent, trade mark, copyright and internet-related issues every month, many of them only available online. The freely accessible blog highlights some of our content, but about 70% of it is only available to subscribers.
