Sabam gets ready for more litigation

Belgian collecting society Sabam is a step closer to suing internet access providers in the country after they refused to agree to pay fees to compensate copyright owners when their users access and share copyright-infringing material

In November, Sabam wrote to about 20 internet service providers operating in Belgium, including Belgacom and Orange, asking them to pay 3.4% of the subscription price of a broadband connection. This would amount to around €1 a month for each subscriber. Cable TV companies already pay the same percentage of their subscription fees to Sabam.
