India slashes radio licensing rates

The Indian Copyright Board has introduced a new revenue-sharing model between the country’s FM radio stations and copyright owners
The decision to fix royalty rates at 2% of advertising revenue is the first-ever compulsory licence issued under India's Copyright Act.
"The industry is viewing this as a major victory," said Pravin Anand, a partner of Anand & Anand, which acted for one of the radio stations involved.
Private FM radio stations are a recent development in India. Radio City, the first private FM radio station, launched in 2001 in Bangalore as part of the first phase of FM radio licensing.
