Interview: why Lego is concerned about new gTLDs

Lego’s corporate counsel talks to Managing Internet IP about the UDRP and the new gTLD programme

When Danish toy-maker Lego voices its frustrations at the lack of trade mark protections in the new gTLD programme it is easy to understand why: the company is busy enough keeping up with cybersquatting in the domain name system as it is.

Lego is one of the most prolific filers of UDRP complainants, with between one and two filings a week, estimates corporate counsel Mette Anderson.

The majority of the complaints are filed with WIPO, which means a minimum cost of $1,500 a filing plus outside counsel fees.

However, some cost much more. A recent decision involved 23 domains. Lego won, of course. Its filing of UDRPs is so prolific that it caused the prominent domainer blog...
