Australian online piracy appeal heard

The appeal in a high-profile Australian case testing the boundaries of ISP liability for copyright infringement entered its final day today
The Full Federal Court of Australia is hearing an appeal of a decision made in February this year that the internet service provider (ISP) iiNet did not authorise the file-sharing carried out by its customers using the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing protocol.
In November 2008, a coalition of 34 Australian film makers took iiNet to court claiming that the ISP did not take enough action to prevent its users from illegally sharing files over BitTorrent networks, despite being presented with evidence by the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT).
