Global awards dinner 2008

Managing IP's third annual Awards Dinner was held at Claridge's in London last month, with more than 250 guests coming from as far away as Brazil, Korea, Australia, South Africa and Turkey

During the evening, a total of 45 trophies were awarded to the IP firms of the year in 41 jurisdictions in Europe, Asia and Latin America. (This year, for the first time, Managing IP held a separate award ceremony for firms in North America. You can read about the event, held in Washington DC as well as finding out more about the winning firms on page 68.)
The magazine also presented special awards recognizing pan-European work, cases of the year for patents, trade marks and copyright in Europe and Asia, in-house team of the year and outstanding individual achievement.
This accolade went to João Miranda de Sousa, for his work on behalf of trade mark applicants and owners as director of general affairs and external relations at OHIM. A special award was also made posthumously to Lord Justice Nicholas Pumfrey, a highly respected IP-specialist judge at the Patents...
