For the fifth year, Managing IP reveals its list of the biggest IP firms in Asia, Europe and the US
From the Eastern District of Texas to Beijing's Silk Market, IP lawyers are in demand. Companies are facing challenges from counterfeiters, domain name infringers, patent trolls and the internet and are looking for increasingly sophisticated advice from IP specialists to help them solve their IP problems. As they expand into new markets, clients want advice from a growing number of jurisdictions, and as they merge and grow, they need assistance managing the portfolios that they acquire and develop.
All this activity is good news for IP practitioners. As MIP's fifth survey of the largest IP practices shows, many are growing strongly. Seven firms grew by more than a quarter over the past year: Studio Jacobacci, Baker & McKenzie's Asia practice, China's Wan Hui Da, Awapatent, China Patent Agent, Marks & Clerk's European practice and McDermott Will & Emery. Of those, the first three grew by more than a third (see chart).
