Jenny Petering is Of Counsel in FB Rice’s Melbourne biotechnology team. She is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading biotechnology patent practitioners. Jenny has extensive experience managing international patent portfolios, including strategic planning, due diligence, patentability and infringement advice, and coordinating opposition proceedings. Her clients include universities, hospitals, research institutes, cooperative research centres and companies ranging from start-ups to global biotechnology organisations.
Jenny has been recognised by several international rankings for her technical expertise and client service. She was named an IP Star for Patent Prosecution by Managing Intellectual Property from 2019 to 2022 and recognised as a Notable Practitioner in 2025. She has also been recommended in the IAM Patent 1000 Prosecution rankings each year since 2018, recognised in the IAM Strategy 300 from 2021 to 2025, and named an IAM Global Leader from 2024 to 2025.
Beyond her client work, Jenny is an active advocate for Australia’s biotechnology sector. She supports early-stage companies through Scale Angels, serves on the Expert Advisory Panel for the Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS), and is a Senior Fellow in the Melbourne Law Masters program at the University of Melbourne. Prior to her current role, Jenny was a Partner at FB Rice for 15 years.
