The Brand Safety Alliance (BSA) has announced a major expansion to its domain blocking service, GlobalBlock, adding its largest batch of 70 new extensions. Most notably, this expansion includes China’s .cn and Germany’s .de – the two largest country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) in the world.
This latest addition brings the platform’s total coverage to 780 distinct web extensions, encompassing a wide range of geographic/ccTLD namespaces from Indonesia and Bangladesh to Costa Rica and Sri Lanka, alongside hundreds of popular generic and Web3.0 extensions.
Solving a fragmented digital landscape
Since its launch in March 2024, GlobalBlock has aimed to address a fundamental challenge for intellectual property (IP) professionals: while the internet is global, the policies and processes governing it are highly localised and fragmented.
Historically, protecting a trademark in many ccTLDs required navigating often complex individual registration requirements, securing local proxy representation, and paying for ongoing renewal costs. This forced brands into expensive, reactive postures, spending millions on defensive domain portfolios just to play catch-up with bad actors in an increasingly AI-driven threat landscape.
GlobalBlock changes this paradigm by offering a proactive, centralised brand protection solution. Instead of registering every domain variation, a single GlobalBlock purchase allows brand owners to blanket-protect their IP in over 50% of the world’s internet extensions in one simple transaction.
Automated growth and enforcement
The GlobalBlock service has seen rapid adoption and growth, increasing its covered extensions by approximately 40% over the past two years. Crucially, as the network continuously expands to include new extensions such as .cn and .de, existing customers have this new coverage applied to their accounts automatically and at no additional cost.
Beyond passive blocking, the service actively enforces brand rights. Through its Priority AutoCatch feature, GlobalBlock has successfully retrieved more than 10,000 unauthorised domains from third parties by seizing them the moment they are deleted or expire, keeping them out of the hands of cybersquatters.
Next steps for brand owners
With further extension batches planned for 2026, the BSA is continuing to work with domain registries to simplify brand identity protection and create a safer internet.
To help brands and IP professionals navigate this expanding network, the BSA and its accredited agents are currently hosting a series of “Market Briefing Sessions”. Attendees will be able to hear directly from the GlobalBlock team and request personalised data detailing their specific risk of exposure and how centralised blocking could reduce their administrative burdens.
Interested professionals can view participating agents and register for upcoming webinar sessions via the GlobalBlock website.
