Icann requests independent objector for gTLDs

Managing Internet Intellectual Property

Icann has asked individuals to apply for the position of independent objector, a role that will begin in April 12 2012 and last for at least one year.

The objector would be responsible for blocking gTLDs on public interest grounds. A gTLD could be blocked for moral or legal reasons, or if there was substantial opposition to an application from within a community that the domain targeted.

The application form says the objector must be unaffiliated with any known potential applicants. Another requirement states that he or she must have “excellent problem-solving skills” and an “extensive understanding of dispute resolution processes”.

Interested candidates have until December 22 2011 to apply.
