The tenth round of Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) negotiations this week in Washington DC will be attended by all negotiating partners, according to the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR)
During the ninth round of talks, held last month in Switzerland, the EU and the US reached an impasse on the scope of the agreement. EU trade commissioner Karel De Gucht said that the agreement will be of little benefit if not extended to cover designs and geographical indications, in addition to trade marks and copyright.
The US and other partners have said that the agreement should focus more narrowly on trade marks and copyright to be most effective.
