Record year as IP firms expand

Managing IP's sixth annual review of the largest IP firms shows further growth - but also reveals some new names at the top of the rankings
Law firms and IP practices have more practitioners than ever before, and for the first time one firm has broken the 400-attorney mark this year. The growth in firms' IP practices, reported in the sixth annual survey by Managing IP, reflects the increase in patent and trade mark filings as well as booming workloads in practices such as litigation and technology transfer.
The survey ranks the largest firms in four regions: Asia, Europe, the US and Canada. Figures in the tables are provided by the firms themselves, based on strict criteria provided by Managing IP. The figures are correct as at July 31 2008 and include fully qualified lawyers (solicitors and/or barristers) and patent trade mark agents, provided they spend at least 75% of their time on IP work.
