Tips on tackling trans-shipment
How best to use enforcement techniques to stop the trans-shipment of counterfeit and pirated goods was the subject of a web seminar held on June 19. The web seminar was sponsored by Baker & McKenzie and Kluwer Law International.
The four speakers discussed the growing challenges in trans-shipment, including the European legal landscape, the use of the internet to advertise counterfeit goods across borders and the emergence of free trade zones in Asia and the Middle East.
Paul Rawlinson of Baker & McKenzie explained the importance of the EU Counterfeit Goods Regulation, and the simplified procedure available under it, and illustrated the remedies available in the EU and other major markets with a matrix. Bruce Longbottom of Eli Lilly provided an in-house perspective, explaining how Lilly adopts a four-pronged legal strategy to support anti-counterfeiting.
