Protecting Playboy's bunny

The Playboy bunny is one of the most widely recognized trade marks in the world. But that also makes it a target for counterfeiters. Ana Cashman, Playboy's assistant counsel, tells Shahnaz Mahmud how the company tackles the problem

It's odd to think that the original logo for Playboy magazine was once a dapper buck. But then again, the original title for the magazine was Stag Party. In 1953, 27 year-old Hugh Hefner was just about to launch his new publication when he received a cease and desist letter from the owners of another title, Stag. He changed his magazine's name to Playboy at the last moment and quickly thought of a new logo: the bunny head.
