Petri van Someren is a European patent attorney and member of the executive board at Arnold & Siedsma. Petri enjoys the challenge of closely working together with a client not only to deal with the technical aspects of an invention, but also to deliberate strategically about the further development and expansion of their patent portfolio. She has been involved in a number of complex international infringement cases, in international disputes and in opposition and appeal cases at the European Patent Office, even up to the Enlarged Board of Appeal (G2/04).
Petri studied Biology at Radboud University Nijmegen, specialising in molecular biology, biochemistry and internal medicine. Since joining Arnold & Siedsma in 1989, she has acquired substantial experience in grant procedures, oppositions and appeal procedures at the European Patent Office in the fields of biotechnology, pharmacy, food technology, environmental technology, medical sciences, diagnostics, contraceptives and is a specialist in patenting inventions in the field of plant breeding. She works closely together with patent attorneys in countries all over the world to prosecute and defend her clients’ patent portfolios.
Petri has been involved with a number of clients from the very start, setting up, building and managing their patent portfolio. She maintains close contact with research & development departments and management to help in defining a company's patent strategy.
Petri is furthermore involved in the national training for patent attorneys as a tutor and exam corrector. She is also an experienced CEIPI tutor.
