Profile

As a physicist (TU Delft 1991) and European patent attorney, he believes that an advice should not only be excellent from a technical and legal point of view, but also that business economics should not be forgotten. After all, advice should also be commercially useful for the client.

Paul is mainly concerned with protecting inventions in the fields of physics and electrical engineering. He has specific expertise in information and communication technology, software, medical applications, optics, seismic data processing, nanotechnology (including microfluidic devices and semiconductors) and mechanics.

In addition, Paul has extensive experience in conducting opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office to defend or have a patent declared invalid. He is particularly strong in conducting oral hearings. With great powers of persuasion, he has achieved successes in several national and international cases, including preventing the rejection of a patent application.

Paul started his career as a patent attorney in 1996 at Arnold & Siedsma, where he worked as a European patent attorney until 2007. Between 2007 and 2010, he was a partner at another international patent office, before returning to Arnold & Siedsma as a partner. In that year, Paul opened a new office in Eindhoven – traditionally the centre of the Dutch manufacturing industry and now also known as a European high-tech region – to best serve the growing number of clients in the southern Netherlands.”
