In her professional practice, Mariana Vargas has had the opportunity to develop in different areas of Law. However, for more than eleven years she has been focused on Intellectual Property matters from different positions.
Currently, as a Partner in the firm, she is focused on the development of protection strategies of intellectual property rights, specifically in the field of trademarks, in the legal advice concerning the international registration of trademarks under on the Madrid Protocol, as well as in consultancy regarding the registration of domain names and protection of copyright, geographical indications, cultural expressions and traditional knowledge and trade secrets. She also participates in the development of due diligences derived from mergers and acquisitions projects of national and international companies.
In the Legal Affairs Area of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, her functions were focused on the legal defense of the Institute before different authorities. At the International Affairs Division, Mariana collaborated with the World Intellectual Property Organization to carry out different projects in conjunction with the IMPI, including cooperation activities with the Arbitration and Mediation Center of WIPO. She also served as a representative of Mexico before various international forums and organizations on intellectual property issues, such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Likewise, she participated in the review and negotiation processes of the intellectual property chapters of different international instruments such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty (TPP), the Pacific Alliance and the Mexico-Jordan Free Trade Agreement, among others..
