Obtaining his MSc in synthetic organic chemistry in 2003, Casper Struve worked with blood-glucose sensor chemistry for some years before applying his skills within the patent profession in 2006. He spent several of the early years as a technical assistant in pharma litigation proceedings, while at the same time learning the art of patent drafting and prosecution.
Since qualifying as a European Patent Attorney in 2011, Casper continues to advise clients in complex pharmaceutical litigation cases across Denmark and Scandinavia. His expertise, and reputation for developing a quick understanding of complexity, has seen him successfully apply his experience to complicated oppositions and appeals before the EPO. Casper also has an established reputation within the energy sector and, following significant successes in examination proceedings and oppositions before the EPO, has helped clients make their mark on the renewables landscape for the foreseeable future.
Since 2010, Casper has been included in the pool of court-appointed experts for Danish patent cases. His experience with patent litigation led to his appointment as a technically qualified judge at the Danish Maritime and Commercial High Court in 2013, where he serves on the panel of judges on an ad hoc basis, when he is not advising parties involved.
Casper is an experienced and passionate tutor on European patent law. In 2016, he completed the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies course on patent litigation in Europe, allowing him to represent clients before the UPC. He joined the Danish national group leadership of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) in 2017, as well as serving as delegate to AIPPI’s executive committee.
Casper has extensive experience within supplementary protection certificates (SPC), having successfully prosecuted over 40 applications, including filing the first SPC extension application based on the Paediatric Regulation in Denmark in 2009.
