One of the pleasures of working in IP is the opportunity it provides to meet and learn from legal practitioners all over the world. Our recent interview with Cesur Kilinç of Anadolu in Turkey is an example of this

Certain jurisdictions – such as the United States, the big EU countries, Japan and China – dominate the world of IP (and the pages of Managing IP). But we are always aware that most IP owners have international interests, whether through ownership of IP rights, partnering or enforcement. Moreover, many IP owners in countries outside of the big markets have interesting perspectives on global IP trends and challenges.

For our recently published Turkey IP Focus (4th edition), I did an interview (by email) with Cesur Kilinç (right). He is legal director of Turkish Anadolu Group. You may not have heard of Anadolu, but you are more likely to be familiar with some of its brands, which include Efes beer and Komili olive oil. Altogether, he told me, its subsidiaries own more than 700 Turkish trade marks and 500 marks internationally.

The interview covers local and international trade mark issues, counterfeiting and what qualities Kilinç looks for in outside counsel: “commercially astute, proactive and responsive”. It is free to read online.
