Wiggin and Dana has added its name to the list of firms expanding their life sciences team with the addition of a new partner.
The firm announced yesterday, March 4, that litigator Kate Cassidy has joined the firm’s New York office. She joins from litigation boutique LTL Attorneys.
Cassidy told Managing IP that she was drawn to the firm because it has a “deep bench” in life sciences and pharma.
“It complemented what I was doing and what my practice is in terms of litigating in the pharma and life sciences space,” she said.
This news comes shortly after a couple of other firms also made major life sciences hires this year.
Fish & Richardson snagged a life sciences litigation duo from Jenner & Block in February, and Cahill Gordon & Reindel brought on two life sciences litigators from White & Case in January.
Cassidy added that life sciences and pharma companies have an interesting path ahead for the next year given the rise of artificial intelligence, as well as potential deals that are developing in the market.
“I think they’ll need really strong attorneys and litigators who can provide excellent services, and that’s why I thought that Wiggin and Dana would be a match for what I do,” she said.
In addition to her litigation work, Cassidy also has experience in arbitration. But work in this space will depend on her clients’ needs.
“Sometimes clients that spend a lot of time litigating also have some arbitration matters. Being a trial attorney, you need to have the advocacy skills whether you’re presenting them in arbitration or in front of a jury,” she said.
“If those opportunities come my way, that’s something the Wiggin and Dana team and I will be able to handle for people.”
