Icann offers olive branch to needy gTLD applicants

Icann has bowed to public pressure by ruling that gTLD candidates who apply for financial assistance but are then disqualified will receive a full $47,000 refund

The changes are in the New gTLD Financial Assistance Handbook which Icann published today after reviewing public comments for two days. The handbook outlines the Applicant Support Program which is aimed at disadvantaged gTLD applicants.

Icann previously said that if applicants did not score sufficient points based on three criteria – public interest benefit, financial need and financial capabilities – then they would lose the reduced $47,000 fee.
