Merlene Engelbrecht is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL). She specialises in trade mark and copyright law, with expertise in managing both domestic and international trade mark matters. Her practice includes conducting trade mark searches, registrations, renewals, and the licensing and assignment of trade marks. She also performs comprehensive audits of trade mark portfolios to ensure optimal protection for her clients' intellectual property.
Merlene is actively involved in trade mark, copyright, and unlawful competition litigation, as well as domain name disputes. Her role extends to contract negotiation and drafting, where she leverages her legal expertise to ensure her clients' intellectual property rights are comprehensively protected. She enjoys navigating the strategic aspects of intellectual property, particularly in advising clients on their legal and commercial interests.
Merlene holds a BA in Value and Policy Studies from Stellenbosch University, where she majored in applied value and policy studies, industrial psychology, and political science. She also earned her LLB from UNISA, providing her with a solid foundation in law and intellectual property.
