Profile

Based in Düsseldorf, at the seat of one of the most important patent infringement courts in Europe, I am partner in our Intellectual Property Practice Group and a patent practitioner with a focus on specialist technical areas.

My practice specialises in patent law, particularly in litigation and counselling in highly technical fields including medical devices, mobile communications and automotive. I represent clients in patent cases before the German Courts and the European Patent Office and also advise on and coordinate multijurisdictional patent litigations. I also represent clients in IP-related arbitration proceedings.

Another specialism of mine is transactional IP matters including the IP aspects of business acquisitions, as well as the drafting and negotiation of complex licensing and R&D agreements.

Over the years I have been involved in major patent disputes for leading companies and institutions such as B.Braun Melsungen, Nespresso, Nokia and NSN (formerly Nokia Inc.), the European Central Bank, Sanofi, Groupe SEB and Teva to name a few.

As head of our China Desk Germany, I keep in regular contact with Chinese clients whom the members of the China Desk Germany advise comprehensively on issues related to M&A, employment law, IT and data protection law as well as IP law. I advise our Chinese clients with regard to their market entry in Germany and Europe in view of third-party IP rights and with respect to the enforcement of their own IP rights against their competitors.

Outside my practice, I speak regularly on patent law in Germany and abroad. I also lecture on R&D agreements in the LL.M. Intellectual Studies in Intellectual Property Law course at the Technical University Dresden.

In addition, I am the author of several legal publications on patent litigation as well as best practices in IP licensing (including the exhaustion of patent rights).
