With more than two decades of experience in the field of intellectual property, Jaana Hämäläinen is a highly respected European Patent Attorney known for her strategic insight and deep technical expertise. Since joining BOCO IP in 2000, Jaana has been a dedicated advocate for her clients, helping both innovative start-ups and global corporations secure and protect their intellectual property rights.
Jaana holds a Ph.D. in plant pathology and an M.Sc. in biotechnology, which serve as a strong foundation for her work across a wide range of technologies, particularly biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, and food technology sectors. She also manages the protection of plant-related inventions and the application for plant variety rights. She passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) in 2012 and has since built a strong track record in patent drafting, prosecution, and opposition proceedings before both the Finnish Patent and Registration Office and the European Patent Office.
A trusted partner to her clients, Jaana is known for her meticulous and solution-oriented approach. She has successfully managed hundreds of patent applications in Finnish, and English, ensuring her clients' innovations are thoroughly protected and their IP strategies aligned with their business goals.
In addition to her work on patent prosecution, Jaana regularly advises clients on freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement matters, and portfolio development. Her experience includes handling oppositions before the EPO, making her a versatile and highly capable representative in opposition proceedings.
