Andy has a wide breadth of experience, having worked as a patent attorney in private practice, as in-house intellectual property counsel and as an engineer in the medical device industry. His practice is characterized by understanding his client’s IP needs and developing strategies to excel in the commercial environment.
Andy’s background is in the field of medical devices, completing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering where his research focused on the design of an artificial heart. From there, he worked as a Senior Engineer and Research Manager at a start-up medical device company focused on developing commercial artificial heart technology.
After transitioning from industry to private practice, Andy built an impressive client base around his medical device expertise. Over the course of his career, he has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of U.K., European and PCT patent applications and managed their prosecution globally. He also has substantial experience in the automotive sector, having worked for a major U.S. automotive firm in both the U.S. and U.K. There, he eventually served as IP Counsel and managed the IP function for the firm in the U.K. Andy also services clients in renewable energy and downhole technology sectors.
