Firm overview

Drakopoulos makes the difference by being an international law firm protecting Intellectual Property (“IP”) rights via its fully-fledged offices covering all aspects of IP law. Our clientele enjoys the added benefit of secure, reliable, and sustainable IP protection, with the advanced skills and local knowledge of specialised IP lawyers and registered agents with international background and experience.

Being experts in IP, we provide advice on IP portfolio management, trademark registration, patent licensing as well as on transactional IP matters such as trademark and technology licensing agreements, franchise agreements and IP aspects of M&A transactions, and we assist our clients in dispute resolution proceedings in relation to trademark, copyright, and other IP rights infringements.

Areas of practice include the following:

  • Trademarks, copyright and designs
Contentious and non-contentious disputes and settlements for validity and infringement litigation (consulting, strategy preparation, drafting legal briefs, witness preparation, out-of-court settlements via warning letters formally served via court bailiff, negotiations and monitoring of compliance, organizing raids and seizures and anti-counterfeiting campaigns).
  • Patents, utility models and supplementary protection certificates
Consulting, legal research, opinions, strategy planning, drafting, witness preparation – with an extensive network of renowned experts from various faculties and jurisdictions – and infringement and nullity actions for all patent, utility, and supplementary protection certificate rights.
  • Domain names, online issues, advertising, and unfair competition
Alternative dispute resolution programme cancellation petitions for the entire range of domain names, cybersquatting, prosecution of advertising and unfair competition complaints.

We also have extensive experience in advising foreign companies which market their products in Greece and Romania on how to protect their trademarks, monitor counterfeit activities and establish and implement efficient anti-counterfeit strategies.

Aside from offering the more traditional IP services, what distinguishes our services is the ability to offer creative solutions in accommodating our clients’ specific needs and interests. When faced with short deadlines, bureaucratic or statutorily imposed obstacles, we make sure that the right case-law or legislative provision is used expeditiously and efficiently, always geared to achieving client satisfaction.

The team possesses also significant experience in helping multinational clients adjust their global arrangements and strategies to Greek and Romanian legal requirements, while promoting their global policies and procedures in the best possible manner and integrates support from different specialized legal teams to provide clients with 360o legal support.

When it comes to anti-counterfeiting, Drakopoulos, partner in Greece, Cyprus and Albania of REACT – The Anti-Counterfeiting Network comprising 400 companies with premium brands across the world, assisting its members in anti-counterfeiting matters across three jurisdictions, is the appointed representative in more than 200 customs applications in Greece, handling more than 350 cases per year in customs and market actions. Drakopoulos regularly organizes seminars assisting enforcement authorities, brand owners and businesses in safeguarding supply chains and stemming the tide of counterfeit goods.

Drakopoulos’ expertise on a wide spectrum of practice areas – including Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions, Real Estate, Public Procurement & PPPs, TMT, Regulatory and Compliance – arms its team with the skills to provide extremely specialised, value-added and prompt Intellectual Property services with flexibility and personalised attention.

ESG and diversity achievements

Equality, inclusion and diversity are fundamental values of Drakopoulos’ corporate philosophy and contribute to securing conditions in the workplace that favour innovation and creativity. In addition, the firm appreciates and seeks to integrate neurodiversity in the workplace, as part of its equality, diversity, and inclusion policies. In that context, Drakopoulos is a member of Diversity Charter for Greek businesses.

Prioritizing the company’s role in relation to society and the environment and acknowledging that responsible business action is a true investment, in an era of ever-changing conditions, Drakopoulos is working to move the needle in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, fundamental values of the firm's corporate philosophy.
