The Japan Patent Office has signed a deal today to gain access to India’s Traditional Knowledge Digital Library.
The TKDL is run by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. With a database of 34 million pages of text in English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish, it seeks to prevent the grant of erroneous patents over products that use traditional knowledge.
India has also signed access agreement with the USPTO, EPO, German Patent Office, IP Australia, Canada Patent Office and UK IP Office.
The deal with Japan was originally announced during a WIPO and CSIR event organised in New Delhi last month, but formal signature was delayed by the earthquake.
