Managing IP's Japanese Buyers' Guide provides insights into a range of different jurisdictions for Japanese practitioners seeking to learn more about the legal terrain of other markets. The guide includes articles relating to China, Japan, Korea, India, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines and the UK.

A significant proportion of the articles in the supplement concern patents, reflecting the dynamism of the patent landscape worldwide. Practitioners in Japan will be able to use the guide to compare the law on patents across different countries.

There are three articles relating to India. One is on joint ownership of patents and the effect of this on infringement claims and the licensing and assignment of patents. The other two are on interim injunctions and India's trademark system. India is clearly engaging with a broad range of IP issues, and businesses interested in this market must be aware of its fast developing body of law in this arena.

The UK article covers the UK and European patent procedures, pointing out the many advantages of the UK system.

The Thailand and South Korea pieces detail updates and amendments to IP law so that lawyers and patent attorneys can keep abreast of the latest developments in these countries. The article on Singapore concerns the patent examination process while the piece on China discusses the impact of the amendments to the Regulation on the Administration of Import and Export of Technologies. The Japanese articles give an overview of the Japanese IP system and consider evidence collection and trade secret protection.

Also included in this supplement are IP Stars' rankings for a number of jurisdictions, including China, France, India, Mexico and the US. The rankings are based on thorough and detailed research. These tables will be very helpful for Japanese practitioners seeking assistance from firms in countries with which they are not familiar. Firms are ranked in an array of areas such as trademark prosecution, patent prosecution and contentious work.

I am sure that this guide will prove invaluable for Japanese practitioners looking to keep up to date with a world in which IP is constantly evolving.
