The firm combines the know-how of French and European Trade Mark and Design Attorneys with the perspective of a court-appointed expert, giving clients a realistic view of how disputes are assessed by judges and arbitrators. Nathalie Dreyfus is an expert before the Cour de cassation and the Paris Court of Appeal, an accredited expert before the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center and the Forum, and lectures at the École nationale de la magistrature (ENM), the French national school for the judiciary.
The firm advises start-ups, SMEs and multinational groups across the full life cycle of their intangible assets: clearance searches, filing strategies in France, the EU and worldwide, portfolio management, oppositions and cancellation actions before the INPI and the EUIPO, and the drafting and negotiation of IP contracts, including licences, assignments, coexistence agreements, franchise and distribution agreements, and technology and Web 3.0 contracts.
Litigation is a core strength of the firm. The team handles pre-litigation strategy, infringement and counterfeiting actions (including saisie-contrefaçon and customs measures), unfair competition and parasitism claims before the French courts, as well as opposition, cancellation and appeal proceedings before the INPI, the EUIPO and the Boards of Appeal, and coordinates multi-jurisdictional enforcement programmes with its network of correspondents.
Dreyfus & associés is particularly recognised for online brand enforcement: domain name strategy and recovery (UDRP, URS, SYRELI, .eu ADR), cybersquatting, phishing, marketplace and social media takedowns, e-commerce and platform compliance, as well as emerging issues raised by Web 3.0, blockchain, NFTs and artificial intelligence.
The firm also advises on personal data protection and GDPR compliance, cybersecurity, software law and IT contracts, giving clients a single team for their IP and digital law needs.
The firm also has a dedicated practice in wine and spirits law and appellations of origin, geographical indications and plant variety rights, advising producers, breeders and agri-food groups on the protection, licensing and defence of their rights in France and abroad.
IP valuation, IP strategy diagnostics and strategic IP audits form a distinctive part of the practice. The firm values intangible assets for transactions, financing, tax and litigation purposes, acts as a legal expert in intellectual property, and supports companies under Master Class PI programmes, all drawing on Nathalie Dreyfus's appointment as expert before the French Supreme Court (Cour de cassation) and the Paris Court of Appeal.
With more than 9,000 IP matters handled and a network of around 250 specialised IP lawyers covering 90 countries, the firm acts as a single point of contact for international portfolios and as a trusted French and EU correspondent for foreign firms. The team works in French, English, Spanish, German and Chinese, and assists Chinese companies protecting and enforcing their brands in France and the EU, as well as European brands expanding into China.
Clients benefit from proprietary tools, including the Dreyfus IPweb® client platform, which gives them online access to their portfolios, deadlines and files, and AI-assisted trade mark similarity analysis, ensuring responsive, transparent and cost-effective management of their rights.
