Managing IP published the official news at the AIPPI World Congress in London on September 16, 17 and 18, covering museum copyright, customs actions and much more

The Monday issue (September 16) led on speeches from the opening ceremony by AIPPI president Renata Righetti and former UK IP minister Jo Johnson. We also included interviews with Righetti and Calum Smyth, chair of the Congress’s UK coordination committee, while also covering a talk on how lawyers can build a personal brand.

In Tuesday’s issue (September 17), two stories made the front cover: one on in-house counsel who shared their top litigation concerns, and the other looking at the interplay between museum copyright and the digital age. We also interviewed Manisha Desai, associate general patent counsel at UCB Biopharma, about patent term extension, and reported on discussions about trademark fair use, supplementary protection certificates and pharma ‘pay for delay’.

On Wednesday, Brexit took centre stage, appropriately as political protesters gathered outside the UK Supreme Court just round the corner. We also spoke to Chuanhong Long and Richard Li, of AIPPI China, the UKIPO’s CEO Tim Moss, and reported on how to tackle “sneaky” counterfeiters with customs actions. Finally, we provided a selection of images of reception parties hosted throughout the Congress.
