His practice is litigation. He argues infringement and revocation actions before the Paris Judicial Court and the Paris Court of Appeal, runs saisie-contrefaçon operations and applications to set the order aside, argues applications for provisional measures in claim and in defence, and appears before the Unified Patent Court and in opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office. He coordinates the parallel proceedings opened abroad.
His cases concern FRAND licences and standard essential patents, information technology and computer-implemented inventions, chemistry and life sciences, electronic and medical devices, mechanics, as well as trade secrets and employee inventions.
His academic work, his teaching and his publications serve that practice: on patentability, on FRAND and on procedure, they give him a reasoned position which he then defends at the hearing.

Matthieu holds a doctorate in patent law (Université Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas), a Master II in Industrial Property Law (CEIPI, Strasbourg) and an LL.M. in International Legal Practice from Bond University (Queensland, Australia). During his academic career he was a visiting researcher at Columbia University (New York) and a scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich (Max Planck Society and GRUR scholarships). In 2026 he spent a research period at the Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP) in Tokyo.
Matthieu’s expertise is recognised by several international directories. IAM Patent 1000 (Bronze band, at the same rank as Dhenne Avocats) describes him as “ An experienced and strategic litigator with strong commercial awareness and an approachable style ”. He is also listed in IP STARS by Managing Intellectual Property (Patent Star, France). The Legal Summits awarded Dhenne Avocats the Silver Trophy.
Matthieu is the President of the Institut Stanislas de Boufflers. Additionally, he is an active member of various professional associations, including AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property), LES (Vice-chair of the Innovation Committee responsible for the Innovation Award 2022), APEB (Association of European Patent Practitioners), AFPPI (French Association for Industrial Property Protection), AAPI (Association of Industrial Property Attorneys), BIO (Biotechnology Innovation Organization), AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association), and the Association des Dîners du Palais.
