Marco Zardi is the founder and managing director of M Zardi & Co SA, a specialised IP firm based in Lugano, Switzerland. The firm includes Swiss and European patent attorneys, trademark attorneys and IP legal consultants. Mr Zardi’s technical expertise lies in the chemical and mechanical engineering fields.
Mr Zardi has been working in intellectual property for 30 years, gaining expertise in all proceedings before the EPO and the Swiss Patent Office. As a substantive examiner at the EPO, he became familiar with the EPO’s practice.
In private practice, Mr Zardi provides services to a world leading company in industrial chemistry. As the main reference in all IP matters, he has been managing their worldwide IP portfolio for a long time. In recent years, several international companies in different technological areas have requested Mr Zardi’s advice for providing strategies to help shape their IP portfolio, in connection with economic targets and constraints.
Mr Zardi is experienced in advising overseas clients (especially far east companies) and local companies. These activities have expanded through the management of multi-national IP litigations, where Mr Zardi is frequently asked to provide freedom to operate, technical and infringement opinions in connection with out of court and court proceedings.
Further, Mr Zardi’s expertise is well-rooted in commercial evaluations of IP rights and negotiations for IP licensing or assignment.
Since 1999 Mr Zardi has been one of the most active contributors to M Zardi & Co’s continuous development, a well-established and renowned IP practice. The firm currently has about 20 employees, including IP specialists in all technical fields and IP law.
Mr Zardi has also been a part-time judge of the Swiss Federal Patent Court since it was established in 2012. He has frequently been involved in processing complex patent matters including court decisions and alternative settlements.
