Kathryn Sayer

Kathryn ("Katy") Sayer joined Håmsø Patentbyrå in 2026 as a European and UK Patent Attorney after working at two leading London-based intellectual property firms since entering the profession in 2016.

Katy holds a first-class Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London. Her patent practice spans a wide range of technologies, including automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and consumer goods. She has particular expertise in complex mechanical inventions, including heat exchangers and rocket engines.

Her work includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as advising clients on freedom-to-operate matters and the commercial implications of third-party intellectual property rights. She gained valuable in-house experience through a two-year secondment with the legal team of a leading global automotive manufacturer.

In addition to her patent practice, Katy is a specialist in UK and EU registered designs. She has an established track record in contentious design matters, including successfully defending registered designs in EU invalidity proceedings and obtaining the invalidation of third-party designs in the UK.

For three consecutive years, Katy has been recognised as a Rising Star by Managing IP. She has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law and the CIPA IP Litigation Certificate.
