James is a Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and Higher Courts Litigator.
He advises blue chip clients on cross-border patent protection, portfolio management and enforcement, as well as freedom to operate. He is highly regarded for his technical expertise which includes mobile and contactless payments systems, wireless chipsets, mobile satellite and terrestrial cellular communications, satellite broadcast receivers and personal video recorders. His expertise also extends to biometric scanners, green tech, automotive and aircraft engineering, domestic appliances and thermostatic controls.
Work of late has seen him advise a major international bank – developing a broad portfolio of patents and identifying key infringement risks. He has also assisted BA with patenting First and Club World seats to maintain a distinctive offering for customers. He has further advised Sky on developing a patent portfolio, and has handled patenting aspects of satellite based broadband services for Inmarsat.
James has been a partner of Maucher Jenkins for 24 years and currently manages the IT department, having introduced an entirely paperless document management system in 2009.
