Eng Leong is a legally qualified and trained lawyer. After being called to the High Court of Malaya, he commenced intellectual property practice with a leading law firm. In 2006, he joined Henry Goh as one of the firm’s in-house Legal Counsel.
In his multihyphenated role as a senior legal counsel, senior trademark agent and now, Head of Trademark, Eng Leong is leading the charge for our trademark practice. To the clients, his expertise includes devising and implementing trademark protection strategies as well as managing an extensive trademark portfolio for a myriad of domestic and international clients from different major industries. Clients value his sound and honest advice. He is adept in all facets of trademark practice with a focus on prosecution, administrative hearings and opposition proceedings. In collaboration with external solicitors, he has coordinated successful enforcement and defence of clients’ IP rights at all levels of the Malaysian court system, including negotiations for amicable settlement and coexistence of rights.
In his operation leadership position and as a Business Development Strategist, he develops and puts into action business and work policies that will ensure our firm remains as one of the leading IP agencies in the region. Eng Leong continues to develop a strong practice foundation for the firm’s trademark department, and to share his growing knowledge in various forums including in-house training for staff, workshops for clients and seminars for the public. His strategic insights are especially sought after in view of robust changes to the national trademark, copyright and geographical indication laws. In addition, he is part of the Henry Goh newsletter editorial team and a frequent contributor to various IP publications and podcasts. He is a dynamic and industrious individual, fully committed to the firm and the interests of our clients.
Eng Leong is a registered agent in the separate fields of patent, industrial design and geographical indication in Malaysia. He was instrumental in laying the foundation for the firm’s copyright and geographical indication practice in Malaysia. He also has experience in Singapore trademark practice, having completed work experience at the Henry Goh office there.
Eng Leong is a member of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA), served as a Committee Member during the 2023-2025 EXCO term and its Trademark Task Force, International Trademark Association (INTA), Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and an alumnus of the Japan Patent Office IPR Training (Class of 2012).
