Ekrem Soylu is a qualified European and Turkish Patent and Trademark Attorney and Mechanical Engineer with over two decades of experience in intellectual property. As the founder and Managing Partner of Soylu Patent A.Ş. in Istanbul, he has built a reputable firm that provides strategic counsel to leading corporations across diverse industries, including home appliances, automotive, defense, software, and confectionary. Since establishing Soylu Patent in 2015, he has guided the company to become a trusted partner for two of Turkey’s top three patent filers.
Before founding Soylu Patent, Ekrem honed his expertise as Department Manager and Senior Intellectual Property Counsel at BSH Home Appliances, where he was responsible for overseeing IP activities in Turkey, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and the CIS. During his decade-long tenure, he developed a robust patent portfolio, contributed to strategic IP policies, and led the patent department to earn government recognition as one of the country’s most prolific national patent filers. He also gained international experience through assignments at BSH Corp in the United States and BSH Headquarters in Germany.
In addition to his work at Soylu Patent, Ekrem served as Patent Manager for Sanovel Pharmaceutical—one of Turkey’s leading generics pharmaceutical producers—managing a significant IP portfolio and supervising a large team of specialists. His responsibilities included directing first patent applications, preparing Freedom-to-Operate reports, and handling complex legal disputes.
Ekrem’s credibility extends to Istanbul’s Specialized IP Courts and Arbitration Centers (ICC and ISTAC), where he has contributed over 100 expert opinions on infringement and invalidation matters since 2006. BSc. Uludağ University’s Mechanical Engineering, he began his professional journey as a co-founder of an IT startup before transitioning into patent law. Today, he continues to provide invaluable legal counsel and strategic patent management services to his high-profile clientele.
