Christine Genge is a Principal in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office and an internationally recognized leader in protecting patent and industrial design innovation. With extensive expertise in patent and industrial design IP and a background in mechanical engineering, she advises Fortune 50 companies and innovators on securing patent, industrial design and trademark protection.
Christine focuses on protecting a broad range of technologies, from high-tech and consumer products, to oil field related innovations. She is one of a select few Canadian practitioners with the knowledge to successfully navigate the requirements of Canadian, U.S., and European design regimes.
Christine assists international clients in securing IP protection in Canada, advising on portfolio management, enforcement and freedom-to-operate, and works with Canadian innovators to secure IP protection domestically, in the U.S. and abroad. She is listed in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, MIP IP Stars, and WIPR Leaders.
She is a Fellow of IPIC and a liaison to CIPO’s Industrial Design Practice Committee; past Chair of the Industrial Design Joint Liaison Committee; member of the Women in IP Network; past member of the Patent Agent Examination Board; past Chair of the Ottawa IPIC Informals Group; and member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
