Technology is the key
The Global IP Support Unit (IPSU) is a multi-client, full-service IP support function, staffed by a team of back-office IP support professionals based in our Belfast and Manila offices. The IPSU provides centralized administrative support for the management of large-scale intellectual property (IP) portfolios. This includes centrally coordinating client instructions, billing and reporting for a full range of brand protection services, ranging from IP related searches, applications, oppositions, registrations and maintenance, to pre- and post-transactional IP services, including due diligence, rights transfers as well as mergers and acquisitions. We also offer our clients a proprietary technology platform: Symphony, which allows us to provide clients with cost-effective prosecution and portfolio management services. Our clients have online access to their portfolios of trademarks and designs and
can analyse their entire brand portfolios across all vendors worldwide. The platform, being state of the art, also allows clients to directly instruct its counsels.

The team advises in areas such as trademark, design and patent enforcement and litigation, copyrights and advertising, transactional IP matters and unfair competition.
We offer sound knowledge in handling important IP portfolios for international firms operating in various industries, including pharma, tobacco and FMCG. We annually handle around 150 IP litigation cases before the Polish Patent Office, the EUIPO, administrative courts, domain name arbitration courts, civil and criminal courts, and we are involved in dozens of pre-trial actions concerning the protection of IP rights for clients such as 3M, Acer, Astellas, Berlin-Chemie, CEDC International, Disney, Dyson, Ecolab, Eli Lilly, Moet Hennessy, Netflix, Podravka, Tommy Hilfiger, and Unilever.

- Representing 3M Company, one of the largest manufacturers in the world, in European Union trademark opposition proceedings before the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
- Advised Red Bull, one of the largest manufacturers of energy drinks in the world, in an opposition against Polish trademark application with the word “Bulldog” and a figurative element.
- Representing Calvin Klein, a renowned global apparel manufacturer, in a proceeding concerning the infringement of its exclusive rights, i.e. the importing from China of a large number of goods (more than 120,000 items) with markings confusingly similar to Calvin Klein trademarks.
