Ma Yide

Member of China National People’s Congress
Professor Ma Yide is a current member of China’s National People’s Congress and vice chairman of China Intellectual Property Law Society. He has been conducting legal research and policy studies for more than 30 years, accomplishing more than 20 national-level research projects. He has directly been involved in recent IP legislations and policy making process.
Ma was recognised as one of MIP’s Top 50 Most Influential Persons in 2018. China’s Ministry of Justice awarded him 'Persons of Rule of Law in Year 2020' for his contribution to China’s IP legislations. In 2021, Ma published a Patent Law textbook for use in major Chinese law schools.
David Kappos

David Kappos is a partner at Cravath Swaine & Moore and leader in the field of IP, including IP management and strategy, the development of global IP norms, laws and practices and the commercialisation and enforcement of innovation-based assets.
From 2009 to 2013, David served as Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office, where he advised the President on IP policy matters. He was instrumental in achieving the passage and implementation of the 2011 Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. From 2003 to 2009, he served as IBM’s chief IP lawyer.
