EIP opens office in Germany

EIP, a UK-based firm bringing together patent attorneys and lawyers, has opened an office in Dusseldorf, Germany

Ben Grzimek

The office will focus on patent litigation and the firm has hired Benjamin Grzimek (right) as a partner to head it.

Head of EIP Legal, Gary Moss, told Managing IP the firm is also “actively recruiting” more partners for the office, but he said it had no immediate plans to hire patent attorneys in Germany.

Grzimek was formerly with Maiwald Patentanwalts and has also worked at DLA Piper and Taylor Wessing.

He acted for Visto Corporation in its litigation against Research in Motion, and represented Ericsson in the IPCom v Deutsche Telekom case.

EIP opened an office in San Diego, California in May this year, meaning it now has a presence in three key markets for patent litigation.

But Moss said there were no immediate plans to add further offices in other countries. “We think London and Germany will remain important centres for litigation when the Unified Patent Court comes into being,” he added.

EIPO has four UK offices and was founded in 2000.
