Taranto confirmed to Federal Circuit

Richard Taranto has been confirmed by the US Senate as the newest member of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit

Taranto fills one of three vacancies on the court. He was nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Judge Haldane Robert Mayer, who assumed senior status in June 2010.

Taranto was most recently a partner of the two-person law firm of Farr & Taranto in Washington, DC. He has argued 19 cases before the Supreme Court and has litigated IP cases before both the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court.

He was confirmed by a vote of 91-0.

Dennis Crouch of Patently O said he expects Taranto to officially join the court within the next week or so.

Crouch added that the remaining two vacancies are not likely to be filled until the latter half of the year.
