IP5 consider cloud examinations and global dossier

The heads of the world’s five largest patent offices met this week in Porticcio, France to discuss achievements and future plans regarding international harmonisation

The IP5 was launched in 2007 to work on increasing cooperation and collaboration among the world’s largest IP offices.

In its fifth year, the heads of the IP5 offices this week discussed future goals, including so-called Cloud Patent Examination Solutions and a global dossier, both of which “are aimed at simplifying procedures for applicants and improving the efficiency of the offices when dealing with the same patent application”, according to an EPO release.

The launch of a new classification system developed by the USPTO and EPO was also reaffirmed, as was their commitment to improving the PCT.

The next meeting of the IP5 will take place in the US in 2013.
