The day-long event will cover: an economic overview of Africa; a session on pitfalls and strategies in protecting your IP rights in Africa; transfer pricing and IP; innovation in Africa; competition law, South Africa's IP policy and substantive examination; and effective anti-counterfeiting strategies.

The day will conclude with a drinks reception.

Attendance is free for in-house counsel, corporate executives and private practice lawyers and qualifies for 6.5 CLE points in New York (pending). You can register online.

Anyone else who would like to attend should contact us for information.

The session on "Global IP Portfolios and Enforcement: Pitfalls & Strategies in Protecting your IP Rights in Africa" will also be broadcast as a webinar, for the benefit of those not in New York on April 6. Sign up to listen to it online on our webinars page. We're pleased to be hosting this landmark event on what is a challenging but increasingly important region for many IP owners, particularly those in industries such as energy, pharmaceuticals, telecoms and FMCG who are investing in the continent.

With a population of over 1 billion people, and a growing economy, Africa cannot be ignored in any international IP strategy.

For more information on IP in Africa see our dedicated jurisdiction pages, which include our recent Africa news roundup (February 2016) and an interview with ARIPO Director General Fernando dos Santos (July 2015)
