Meet the Managing IP team: Emma Barraclough

Introducing Managing IP's group editor, Emma Barraclough

Emma BarracloughEmma contributes news articles, features and blogs for the magazine and Managing IP’s website, and commissions and edits articles and guest blogs. She hosts webinars and awards dinners, writes for conference newspapers and has chaired Managing IP events in Europe, the US and Asia. She also oversees all the editorial content for the women’s network and has hosted network forum events in New York, San Jose and London.

Emma has a degree in politics and East Asian studies from Newcastle University and spent two years studying in Beijing. She qualified as a solicitor at a city firm before making the switch to legal publishing, guessing (correctly) that she would enjoy asking questions about the law rather more than trying to answer them. She joined Managing IP as Asia editor and spent three years based in Hong Kong.

Two years ago she began studying at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and last year completed her MA in globalisation and multinational companies. Her dissertation was on takeovers and shareholder value.

Emma works largely from Bristol but makes frequent trips to Managing IP’s London office. Before she had children she used to spend much of her time riding bikes or planning to ride bikes. Now she dusts off her mountain bike and goes on club runs as often as she can and is a ride leader for Breeze, British Cycling’s programme to encourage more women to cycle.
